Mesothelioma is a cancerous disease that is becoming more and more common. Affecting the mesothelial cells that make up the mesothelium – the outer lining that protects the body’s major organs such as the heart, stomach and lungs – this form of cancer is a direct result of regular and unprotected exposure to asbestos. The symptoms and the latency period of this disease mean that it is difficult to diagnose. Treatment for mesothelioma is still being investigated through clinical trials and research, but as a rule it responds poorly to the treatments that are currently used.
The people most at risk from being carriers of this cancer are those have worked with asbestos over the past thirty to fifty years. Because of this, the disease is most common in men between the ages of sixty and seventy as this is the group that commonly worked with asbestos during those years. Because of the lack of protection and regulations in those days, these workers were constantly exposed to the dust and fibres from the asbestos, which caused the cells of the mesothelium to become abnormal. However, because the disease takes decades to develop fully and manifest, many of them were oblivious to this until thirty to fifty years later. It is these men who are now lodging multi-million dollar lawsuits against the unscrupulous companies that exposed them to the dangers of asbestos, even though they were aware that it could cause harm to the employees.
There are also other people at risk from the disease; namely those who have had regular contact with a person who has worked with asbestos. Because these workers regularly carried dust and fibres on their clothes, skin and in their hair, they fibres and dust could be ingested by family members, who were then at risk of developing mesothelioma, respiratory problems or another asbestos related disease.
The organs most affected by mesothelioma are the lungs and the surrounding tissue. Pleural mesothelioma, which is the type affecting the lining of the lungs, is the most common variation of this cancer with symptoms which include breathing and swallowing difficulties, coughing, shortness of breath, fever and weight loss. The abdomen is another area affected by this cancer, and this variation is known as peritoneal mesothelioma. This type of mesothelioma is not as common as pleural mesothelioma. Symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma can include nausea and vomiting, weight loss and loss of appetite, fever, bowel obstruction and pain or swelling of the stomach area. The last variation of the cancer is pericardial mesothelioma, which is where the cancer affects the heart and the tissue surrounding it. This variation is a rare one, and symptoms can include palpitations, breathing difficulties, and persistent coughing.
The symptoms of mesothelioma are very common to a number of other diseases which are more well-known in society. Therefore, it is not unusual for the patient to be misdiagnosed when he or she goes in displaying any or all of these symptoms. People who have worked with asbestos should always let their doctor know this so that the doctor is more aware and more conscious of the possibilities in the event that the symptoms do manifest. A speedy diagnosis is important to the effective treatment of mesothelioma, and without being aware of the facts your doctor may not be able to make the diagnosis as quickly as he would if he is aware of the situation.
Although there are treatments for mesothelioma, they do not have a high success rate particularly on patients in whom the cancer is in its later stages. The faster the mesothelioma is diagnosed and treated, the more chance of success, which is why it is important to get as fast a diagnosis as possible.
Current treatments for mesothelioma include surgery, radiation therapy, palliative therapy and chemotherapy. The National Institute of Cancer along with a variety of other organizations and sponsors are currently conducting research into mesothelioma and carrying out clinical trials to try and find a treatment that will not only be more effective but will enable the successful treatment of the disease even in its later stages.

All about Juice
When a vitamin comes in its natural package, not only is that vitamins ingested, but so are other nutrients (some of which we aren’t even aware of yet) that work with it for good health. For this reason, orange, papaya, and pineapple juice (rich in vitamin C), apricot nectar, tomato juice (rich in vitamin A), mango juice and vegetable juice (rich in both), and other naturally nutritious juices should be your beverages of choice.
At this point, orange juice has another score that also contains calcium. Apple juice, still a natural beverage, is a distant second best; it’s better choice if it is enriched with vitamin C (but do not serve unpasteurized cider since it could be contaminated with hazardous bacteria). Though it doesn’t naturally contain great quantities of any of the known vitamins, some ingredients in apples are beginning to get scientific attention, and maybe one day soon the reasoning behind proverb “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” will become clear.
Juice combination that are comprised mostly of grape juice and/or apple juice fall into the same category as straight apple juice, again, enrichment with vitamin C makes them a better bet. Sugar-water beverages (vitamin enriched or not), including 10% fruit juice drinks and nay other fruit drinks or punches that contain sugar or any of its aliases on the label, are not only least best, they should be scratched from the list of acceptance beverages for your toddler. Your toddler would be better off swallowing some vitamin C drops; at least then there would be no empty calories along for a free ride.
And don’t overdo juice. Too much of any juice can lead to malnutrition, with inadequate intake of protein and complex carbohydrate and, if mixed with fluoridated water, possible, too much fluoride. Large amounts of apple or pear juice can lead to chronic diarrhea. Limit intake of low-nutrition juices to no more than 4 to 8 ounces daily, diluted with an equal amount of water. And be sure that juice, even nutritious juice, doesn’t replace milk that your toddler needs about 2¾ cups daily, or solid foods in your child’s diet.

ALWAYS EAT FRESH FRUIT ON AN EMPTY STOMACH
We all think eating fruit means just buying fruit, cutting it up and
popping it into our mouths. It's not that easy. It's important to know
how and when to eat fruit.
What's the correct way to eat fruit?
IT MEANS NOT EATING FRUIT AFTER A MEAL! FRUIT SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN
EMPTY STOMACH.
Eating fruit like that plays a major role in detoxifying your system,
supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other
life activities..
FRUIT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD.
Let's say you eat two slices of bread, then a slice of fruit. The
slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the
intestines, but it's prevented from doing so.
In the meantime, the whole meal rots and ferments, and turns to acid.
The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach,
and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil.
Eat your fruit on an empty stomach, or before your meal! You've heard
people complain: Every time I eat watermelon I burp, when I eat durian
my stomach bloats, when I eat a banana I feel like running to the
toilet, etc. This will not happen if you eat the fruit on an empty
stomach. Fruit mixes with the putrefying other food and produces gas.
Hence, you bloat!
Graying hair, balding, nervous outburst, and dark circles under the
eyes - all of these will NOT happen if you eat fruit on an empty
stomach.
There's no such thing as some fruits, like orange and lemon are
acidic, because all fruit becomes alkaline in our body, according to
Dr. Herbert Shelton who did research on this matter. If you have
mastered the correct way of eating fruit, you have the Secret of
Beauty, Longevity, Health, Energy, Happiness and normal weight.
When you need to drink fruit juice drink only fresh fruit juice, NOT
from the cans. Don't drink juice that has been heated. Don't eat
cooked fruit; you don't get the nutrients at all. You get only the
taste... Cooking destroys all of the vitamins.
Eating a whole fruit is etter than drinking the juice. If you should
drink the juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you
must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it. You can go on a
3-day fruit-fast to cleanse your body. Eat fruit and drink fruit juice
for just 3 days, and you will be surprised when your friends say how
radiant you look!
KIWI: Tiny but mighty, and a good source of potassium, magnesium,
vitamin E & fiber. Its vitamin C content is twice that of an orange!
AN APPLE a day keeps the doctor away? Although an apple has a low
vitamin C content, it has antioxidants & flavonoids which enhances the
activity of vitamin C, thereby helping to lower the risk of colon
cancer, heart attack & stroke.
STRAWBERRY: Protective Fruit. Strawberries have the highest total
antioxidant power among major fruits & protect the body from
cancer-causing, blood vessel-clogging free radicals.
EATING 2 - 4 ORANGES oranges a day may help keep colds away, lower
cholesterol, prevent & dissolve kidney stones, and reduce the risk of
colon cancer.
WATERMELON: Coolest thirst quencher. Composed of 92% water, it is also
packed with a giant dose of glutathione, which helps boost our immune
system. Also a key source of lycopene, the cancer-fighting oxidant.
Also found in watermelon: Vitamin C & Potassium..
GUAVA & PAPAYA: Top awards for vitamin C. They are the clear winners
for their high vitamin C content. Guava is also rich in fiber, which
helps prevent constipation. Papaya is rich in carotene, good for your
eyes..

Work long hours? Stay in shape to lower risk of heart disease
Working long hours increases the risk of dying from heart disease but staying in shape can eliminate that risk, according to a new study.
"Those working more than 45 hours a week had two times the risk of cardiovascular mortality compared to those working normal hours, less than 40 hours per week," said lead study author Andreas Holtermann. If you are in good shape and you work out, than working long hours does not change your risk level.
Working additional hours stresses the cardiovascular system and boosts the nervous system causing your heart rate and blood pressure to elevate, according to the study. But if you're fit, your body recovers faster and the physiological stress from working those long days is reduced, the research showed.
So if you are working long hours, your risk of dying of heart disease can come down to whether you are getting enough exercise.

Delicious Fruits Can Prevent Cancer
Cancer prevention starts with a healthy diet. The following fruits, while common in our daily life, are healthy and can help in prevention of the disease.
1. Grapes: Grapes contain resveratrol which prevents normal cell from becoming cancerous and inhibits the spreading of malignant cells. Chinese medicine believes that grapes are good for many body functions. Sour grapes are suitable for cancer patients after surgery or undergoing radiotherapy.
2. Strawberry: Ellagic acid in strawberry can protect the body against carcinogens harm and certain effects in anti-cancer. Strawberry is effective in easing out nasopharyngeal, lung, and laryngeal cancer patients with radiation reaction.
3. Banana: It is found that banana extract can control intrinsic carcinogens such as aflatoxin B1. Animal studies found that magnesium deficiency could significantly weaken the body's ability to fight cancer cells. Banana contains magnesium and potassium to help prevention of cancer. Banana benefits colorectal cancer patients in alleviating symptoms resulted from radiotherapy.
4. Fig: Fig contains ingredients that can fight tumors, control cancer cells and inhibit protein synthesis. Six cancer hospitals, through the observation of more than 1,300 patients, found that figs can be used as the daily diet for cancer patients including ascites carcinoma, sarcoma, liver, lung, and other tumors with good therapeutic results.
5. Kiwi: Each 100 grams of the kiwifruit contains 150 mg. of vitamin C, topping all kinds of fruits. Through the protection barriers of the interstitial cells, kiwi can eliminate carcinogenic substances. It is believe this effect can help to lengthen the survival period of cancer patients. The mildly sour kiwifruit is especially suitable for certain cancer patients after radiotherapy (i.e., breast cancer, lung cancer, cervical cancer, bladder cancer, etc.)

How to Buy the Healthiest Eggs
Here are some tips for choosing the healthiest eggs:
• "Organic"
A USDA-certified organic label means the eggs came from hens that were not enclosed in battery cages, and that must be offered access to the outdoors. However, this doesn't guarantee that the animals ever go outside. Organic eggs come from hens that were fed certified-organic feed, free of antibiotics, pesticides, and other animal products. Forced molting and debeaking are permitted in certified-organic production.
• "Natural"
This means that the finished product hasn't undergone certain unnatural processes; in this case, that product is the egg. However, just because eggs are labeled natural doesn't mean a hen wasn't pumped up with antibiotics or other unnatural substances. And it certainly doesn't mean the chickens were raised in clean, humane conditions. For all intents and purposes, natural means nothing.
• "Pastured"
Pastured chickens should be housed on grassland in portable shelters that are periodically moved to give the chickens fresh pasture, but there's no third-party inspection required to ensure that's what's really happening. Your best bet is to buy eggs from pastured hens at a local farm that raises the hens organically, ensuring they're not exposed to pesticides, animal by-products, or antibiotics.
• "Omega-3-Enriched"
This means hens were fed feed with an increased amount of omega-3-rich flaxseeds. However, pasture-raised hens are already higher in beneficial omega-3s, and they get to be outside. Technically, caged hens could also be fed flax feed, so don't equate this label with better living standards.
• "Certified Humane"
This means birds are not kept in cages, but they can be kept indoors. They at least have the space to perform natural behaviors. The program of Human Farm Animal Care sets limits on the number of birds that can be contained in the same area, and outside inspectors perform audits. The program does not, however, require that the animals eat organic feed.
