Workaholics with No Balanced Life

There is no indefinite job security. Market conditions fluctuate so
fast that workers would rather play it safe by working into the
good books of the employer. What better way to do that than to
be the first person to step into the office and the last to leave. What
started out as pure work enthusiasts end up being workaholics.

Workaholics' lives center around work and nothing else.
Workaholism was a topic we used to joke about, but as people
became more conscious of leading balanced lifestyles, it had
changed it status to a medical problem and was labeled Work
Addiction.

Work addicts are in a different class. Many do not
work for the monetary rewards, promotion or recognition; they
work because they just cannot stop working. Bosses naturally love
to employ these people since their engines can run even without
fuel. The problem is that their engines don't last. Like a machine,
they lose touch with the social aspects of life and have little regard
for friends and family. They 'burn-out' at an early age, and are
often ill and depressed. How do we tell that a person is addicted
to work?

What can we do to help them lead a balanced life?

What are the Side Effects of Teeth Whitening

Due to certain foods like coffee, soda, certain wines and some fruits and vegetables teeth can become stained. Tobacco use and age are also factors involved with teeth discoloration. In consideration of these factors many are turning to teeth whitening procedures for a brighter and whiter smile. Whether it’s visiting the favorite dentist for an in office whitening treatment such as whitening gels and laser treatments, or home based whitening products; teeth whitening procedures are not without risks.
The side effects from teeth whitening procedures can be mild to severe and can be short term or long term depending on the patient. With whitening gels and home based whitening treatments the most common side effect is teeth sensitivity. Teeth can experience either thermal sensitivity or sensitivity to air. Thermal sensitivity is with hot or cold liquids or food and air sensitivity can happen when a person breaths using their mouth. Bleaching agents such as cabamide peroxide break down the enamel of the teeth causing these types of sensitivity during the procedure and after the procedure is completed.

Another side effect of teeth whitening using these methods can be throat irritation; caused by the agent leaking into the mouth and accidentally swallowed by the patient. Dehydration of the teeth and nerve inflammation can also occur due to seepage or prolonged use of bleaching agents. If any portion of the bleaching agent is ingested the patient may experience burning, nausea, and vomiting. Saliva production can be decreased also due to the oxidizing agents used in teeth whitening products.

Because of too little or too much bleaching agent being used teeth can look translucent, spotty, or the edges of the teeth can appear whiter than the rest of the teeth. Not to mention the side effect of emptying your bank account because the process of whitening the teeth is not permanent. The whiteness can deteriorate and patients end up spending more money for more whitening procedures.

Laser whitening is used by dentist as an in office procedure because it is faster than the use of whitening gels. This process can also carry the same side effects as mentioned with the other procedures. However, laser whitening can have additional side effects such as lip burning and swelling, canker sores and cold sores, and discoloration of the gum tissues inside the mouth. Consequently, it would be wise to consider these side effects before choosing a teeth whitening procedure.

Erectile dysfunction? Try losing weight

(Health.com) -- Viagra gets the job done, but it's a quick fix. For many men, weaning themselves off the little blue pill and finding a longer-lasting solution to their sexual dysfunction may require hitting the gym and putting down the doughnuts.

A new Australian study, published Friday in the "Journal of Sexual Medicine," found that losing just 5% to 10% of body weight over a two-month period improved the erectile function -- and revved up the sex drives -- of obese men with diabetes.

The study was very small (it included just 31 men), so the results should be taken with a grain of salt. But the findings are yet another reminder that obesity and erectile dysfunction (ED) often go hand in hand.

Health.com: 7 ways to treat erectile dysfunction

Excess weight -- especially excess belly fat -- can affect sexual function in many ways; it can interfere with the body's ability to supply blood to the penis, for instance, and it can cause testosterone production to plummet.

And though the research on weight loss and sexual dysfunction is still emerging, there's growing evidence that men who get active, eat healthier foods, and pare a few pounds will see their sex lives improve -- not to mention their overall health.

In fact, doctors express hope that the promise of an improved sex life will finally get through to all the overweight and obese men who haven't responded to dire warnings about heart disease, diabetes and stroke.

Mesothelioma is a cancerous disease that is becoming more and more common. Affecting the mesothelial cells that make up the mesothelium – the outer lining that protects the body’s major organs such as the heart, stomach and lungs – this form of cancer is a direct result of regular and unprotected exposure to asbestos. The symptoms and the latency period of this disease mean that it is difficult to diagnose. Treatment for mesothelioma is still being investigated through clinical trials and research, but as a rule it responds poorly to the treatments that are currently used.

The people most at risk from being carriers of this cancer are those have worked with asbestos over the past thirty to fifty years. Because of this, the disease is most common in men between the ages of sixty and seventy as this is the group that commonly worked with asbestos during those years. Because of the lack of protection and regulations in those days, these workers were constantly exposed to the dust and fibres from the asbestos, which caused the cells of the mesothelium to become abnormal. However, because the disease takes decades to develop fully and manifest, many of them were oblivious to this until thirty to fifty years later. It is these men who are now lodging multi-million dollar lawsuits against the unscrupulous companies that exposed them to the dangers of asbestos, even though they were aware that it could cause harm to the employees.

There are also other people at risk from the disease; namely those who have had regular contact with a person who has worked with asbestos. Because these workers regularly carried dust and fibres on their clothes, skin and in their hair, they fibres and dust could be ingested by family members, who were then at risk of developing mesothelioma, respiratory problems or another asbestos related disease.

The organs most affected by mesothelioma are the lungs and the surrounding tissue. Pleural mesothelioma, which is the type affecting the lining of the lungs, is the most common variation of this cancer with symptoms which include breathing and swallowing difficulties, coughing, shortness of breath, fever and weight loss. The abdomen is another area affected by this cancer, and this variation is known as peritoneal mesothelioma. This type of mesothelioma is not as common as pleural mesothelioma. Symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma can include nausea and vomiting, weight loss and loss of appetite, fever, bowel obstruction and pain or swelling of the stomach area. The last variation of the cancer is pericardial mesothelioma, which is where the cancer affects the heart and the tissue surrounding it. This variation is a rare one, and symptoms can include palpitations, breathing difficulties, and persistent coughing.

The symptoms of mesothelioma are very common to a number of other diseases which are more well-known in society. Therefore, it is not unusual for the patient to be misdiagnosed when he or she goes in displaying any or all of these symptoms. People who have worked with asbestos should always let their doctor know this so that the doctor is more aware and more conscious of the possibilities in the event that the symptoms do manifest. A speedy diagnosis is important to the effective treatment of mesothelioma, and without being aware of the facts your doctor may not be able to make the diagnosis as quickly as he would if he is aware of the situation.

Although there are treatments for mesothelioma, they do not have a high success rate particularly on patients in whom the cancer is in its later stages. The faster the mesothelioma is diagnosed and treated, the more chance of success, which is why it is important to get as fast a diagnosis as possible.

Current treatments for mesothelioma include surgery, radiation therapy, palliative therapy and chemotherapy. The National Institute of Cancer along with a variety of other organizations and sponsors are currently conducting research into mesothelioma and carrying out clinical trials to try and find a treatment that will not only be more effective but will enable the successful treatment of the disease even in its later stages.

All about Juice

When a vitamin comes in its natural package, not only is that vitamins ingested, but so are other nutrients (some of which we aren’t even aware of yet) that work with it for good health. For this reason, orange, papaya, and pineapple juice (rich in vitamin C), apricot nectar, tomato juice (rich in vitamin A), mango juice and vegetable juice (rich in both), and other naturally nutritious juices should be your beverages of choice.

At this point, orange juice has another score that also contains calcium. Apple juice, still a natural beverage, is a distant second best; it’s better choice if it is enriched with vitamin C (but do not serve unpasteurized cider since it could be contaminated with hazardous bacteria). Though it doesn’t naturally contain great quantities of any of the known vitamins, some ingredients in apples are beginning to get scientific attention, and maybe one day soon the reasoning behind proverb “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” will become clear.

Juice combination that are comprised mostly of grape juice and/or apple juice fall into the same category as straight apple juice, again, enrichment with vitamin C makes them a better bet. Sugar-water beverages (vitamin enriched or not), including 10% fruit juice drinks and nay other fruit drinks or punches that contain sugar or any of its aliases on the label, are not only least best, they should be scratched from the list of acceptance beverages for your toddler. Your toddler would be better off swallowing some vitamin C drops; at least then there would be no empty calories along for a free ride.

And don’t overdo juice. Too much of any juice can lead to malnutrition, with inadequate intake of protein and complex carbohydrate and, if mixed with fluoridated water, possible, too much fluoride. Large amounts of apple or pear juice can lead to chronic diarrhea. Limit intake of low-nutrition juices to no more than 4 to 8 ounces daily, diluted with an equal amount of water. And be sure that juice, even nutritious juice, doesn’t replace milk that your toddler needs about 2¾ cups daily, or solid foods in your child’s diet.

ALWAYS EAT FRESH FRUIT ON AN EMPTY STOMACH

We all think eating fruit means just buying fruit, cutting it up and
popping it into our mouths. It's not that easy. It's important to know
how and when to eat fruit.

What's the correct way to eat fruit?

IT MEANS NOT EATING FRUIT AFTER A MEAL! FRUIT SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN
EMPTY STOMACH.

Eating fruit like that plays a major role in detoxifying your system,
supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other
life activities..

FRUIT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD.
Let's say you eat two slices of bread, then a slice of fruit. The
slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the
intestines, but it's prevented from doing so.

In the meantime, the whole meal rots and ferments, and turns to acid.
The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach,
and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil.

Eat your fruit on an empty stomach, or before your meal! You've heard
people complain: Every time I eat watermelon I burp, when I eat durian
my stomach bloats, when I eat a banana I feel like running to the
toilet, etc. This will not happen if you eat the fruit on an empty
stomach. Fruit mixes with the putrefying other food and produces gas.
Hence, you bloat!

Graying hair, balding, nervous outburst, and dark circles under the
eyes - all of these will NOT happen if you eat fruit on an empty
stomach.

There's no such thing as some fruits, like orange and lemon are
acidic, because all fruit becomes alkaline in our body, according to
Dr. Herbert Shelton who did research on this matter. If you have
mastered the correct way of eating fruit, you have the Secret of
Beauty, Longevity, Health, Energy, Happiness and normal weight.

When you need to drink fruit juice drink only fresh fruit juice, NOT
from the cans. Don't drink juice that has been heated. Don't eat
cooked fruit; you don't get the nutrients at all. You get only the
taste... Cooking destroys all of the vitamins.

Eating a whole fruit is etter than drinking the juice. If you should
drink the juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you
must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it. You can go on a
3-day fruit-fast to cleanse your body. Eat fruit and drink fruit juice
for just 3 days, and you will be surprised when your friends say how
radiant you look!

antioxidant power among major fruits & protect the body from
cancer-causing, blood vessel-clogging free radicals.
